Research

My general interests include medical anthropology, nutritional anthropology, gender, international public health and food security. Geographical areas of interest are sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa and the Islamic world. I am especially interested in pastoralists and agro-pastoralists in the Sahel. More specifically I am interested in preventable disease (particularly malnutrition) and child survival in areas of Africa that suffer from chronic food insecurity. I am also interested in the relationship between conflict and food security.
